Cool Sculpting Basics

Front Range Plastic Surgery is excited to be the Northern Colorado’s provider for Coolsculpting. We know that it’s a relatively new procedure and not everyone is familiar with it so we thought we’d take this blog to go over some basics.

What is Coolsculpting?

  • The technical term for this medical procedure is cryolipolysis. It is the destruction of fat cells through the use of cooling.
  • It is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
  • It is a body sculpting technique that allows you to decided exactly where you want your body to have less fat accumulation.
  • Usually fat cells never go away, the get larger and they may shrink, but they remain unless you get rid of them- for good- through Coolsculpting.
  • In 2010, the FDA cleared the technology behind Coolsculpting.

Is it an invasive procedure?

  • Coolsculpting is a non-invasive procedure
  • It is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
  • There is no anesthesia used.
  • It works on small amounts at a time.

Am I a good candidate for Coolsculpting?

  • Are you not significantly overweight?
  • Do you have localized areas of stubborn fat, such as love handles?
  • Do you have some abdominal fat left over from pregnancies?

Who should do the procedure?

  • You may notice Coolsculpting offered in a variety of places including spas, but we believe you should have Coolsculpting supervised and performed by a medical doctor. Our plastic surgeon, Dr. Warren Schutte cares for our patients who choose Coolsculpting.
