CoolSculpting

Is CoolSculpting or Liposuction Better for Me?

If you’ve made the decision to have a fat-reduction procedure, the next step is to decide whether you want to undergo an invasive or noninvasive procedure. Each can have pros and cons depending on who you are and what your goals are.

Before you embark on any type of procedure, make sure your expectations are realistic.

No fat-reduction procedure should be thought of as a weight-loss program. Whether you choose CoolSculpting, Liposuction, or something else, if you are more than 20 pounds overweight, if your weight fluctuates significantly and frequently, or if you aren’t committed to an active, healthy lifestyle, you aren’t likely to get the results you are looking for. Talk to your doctor about these things in detail.

Invasive Vs Noninvasive

We’ve put together an overview for you here to help you understand the pros and cons of invasive and noninvasive procedures.

Noninvasive

CoolSculpting and other noninvasive procedures don’t require any anesthesia. Typically not even a local anesthetic is needed. You are awake for the procedure. You can listen to music, watch a movie, read a book or just relax. The overall experience is fairly pleasant. Most people experience little pain during the procedure. You don’t have to worry about scarring because no incisions are made. There is typically minimal downtime. You can get back to your regular routine the same day that you have the procedure. You may have a little bit of swelling and discomfort, but it shouldn’t impact your day-to-day activities. You’ll start seeing noticeable improvements in about six weeks, and within three or four months you’ll experience the full results of your procedure. You can always come back for another treatment if you’d like to improve your results.

Invasive

Traditional liposuction requires that you undergo general anesthesia because it is major surgery. Make sure you understand the risks of going under general anesthesia and that you are willing to accept those risks for elective cosmetic surgery. You will have incision scars, so you’ll need to understand where they will be and how bad they will look. If you have a tendency to develop thick or keloid scars, you’ll want to likely consider a non-invasive option. Lastly, if you are looking for quick results, you might be disappointed. You’ll likely see some improvement at about the six month mark. But it could be up to a year before you’ll realize all of the benefits and if you don’t keep up your fitness and healthy eating habits during that time, you’re not going to realize those benefits. Having multiple procedures in the same area is usually inadvisable. If you want to treat multiple areas, that either requires spending an extended period under general anesthesia or undergoing multiple surgeries.
